Where to Find Halsin in Goblin Camp: Recruitment Guide

8 September 2026 | 6

Finding Master Druid Halsin is one of the most critical objectives during the first act of Baldur's Gate 3. Although the map marker points toward the expansive Goblin Camp, finding his exact prison location can be tricky for many adventurers. Rescuing him is essential to advancing the main storyline and finding potential answers about the mind flayer parasite.

Locating the Shattered Sanctum

To begin your search, head west from the Blighted Village until you reach the main courtyard of the Goblin Camp. You can talk your way past the goblin guards using skill checks, Illithid powers, or unique dialogue options depending on your character background. Once inside the main courtyard, proceed directly toward the heavy wooden doors that lead into the interior fortress known as the Shattered Sanctum.

Navigating through the Shattered Sanctum requires either stealth or social diplomacy to avoid fighting the entire fortress at once. If you prefer a peaceful path, avoid committing hostile actions in the open halls where multiple goblin guards congregate. You can explore the central hall freely as long as you do not provoke the major leaders immediately.

Navigating to the Worg Pens

Once inside the Shattered Sanctum, walk up the stairs situated to the right of the central altar. Follow the high corridor past the cage holding Volo the bard and head across the wooden bridge toward the far eastern side. At the end of this walkway, you will find an ornate door leading straight into the Worg Pens.

The Worg Pens serve as the prison area where the goblins hold their most valuable captives. Inside this room, you will spot a giant wild bear trapped within a cage while goblin children throw stones at it. This caged creature is actually Halsin using his wild shape ability to survive captivity.

Freeing the Druid from Captivity

Interacting with the goblins around the cage will initiate a confrontation regarding the captive bear. You can choose to side with the creature immediately, which triggers a localized battle against the guards in the Worg Pens. Eliminating these enemies quickly prevents them from escaping the room and alerting the rest of the camp.

After the battle concludes, the bear will transform back into Halsin and express his gratitude for your intervention. He will explain that he cannot permanently return to the Emerald Grove until the three goblin leaders are dealt with. You can ask him to join your active party for combat or request that he wait in the pens while you eliminate the leaders covertly.

Securing Halsin as a Companion

To complete his recruitment process, you must defeat Priestess Gut, Dror Ragzlin, and Minthara inside the fortress. Once all three bosses are neutralized, speak with Halsin again to confirm that the camp threat has been eliminated. He will then head back to the Emerald Grove to resolve the ongoing internal conflict between the druids and tieflings.

Following the victory celebration at your camp, Halsin will agree to join your journey toward Moonrise Towers. Although he acts primarily as an advisor in Act 1, he eventually becomes a fully playable companion as your quest progresses.
