Is Giratina In Brilliant Diamond And How To Encounter The Legendary Pokemon

7 September 2026 | 9

Players exploring the Sinnoh region in Pokémon Brilliant Diamond will be pleased to know that Giratina is indeed available in the game. Although Dialga serves as the flagship Legendary for this version, Giratina can be encountered as a special post-game challenge. Finding this powerful Ghost and Dragon-type creature requires completing specific storyline milestones and navigating a unique puzzle zone.

Unlocking Access to Giratina in the Post-Game

Before you can locate Giratina, you must first complete the main campaign by defeating the Elite Four and Champions Cynthia. After entering the Hall of Fame, you need to see every Pokémon in the Sinnoh Pokédex to obtain the National Dex from Professor Rowan. Once this upgraded Pokédex is active, a brand-new pathway called the Spring Path will open up along Route 214.

Following the Spring Path leads trainers to Sendoff Spring, a mysterious lake surrounded by steep cliffs. Using the Rock Climb hidden move on your Poketch allows you to descend into the hidden valley and access the entrance of Turnback Cave. This eerie location is where Giratina resides, waiting for skilled trainers brave enough to enter.

Navigating the Turnback Cave Puzzle

Turnback Cave is designed as a randomized maze filled with thick mist, making Defog a helpful move to clear your vision. Inside the cave, your objective is to find three pillar rooms while passing through no more than 30 total rooms. Each pillar displays two numbers showing how many pillars you have found and how many rooms you have traversed.

If you cross through more than 30 rooms without discovering all three pillars, the maze resets and sends you back to the entrance. Successfully locating the third pillar within the limit reveals the doorway to Giratina's chamber. Saving your game right before stepping into the final room ensures you can retry the battle if needed.

Battling and Catching the Renegade Pokemon

When you enter the final chamber, Giratina awaits at level 70 in its Altered Forme. The fight can be difficult, as Giratina possesses strong moves like Shadow Force, Dragon Claw, Earth Power, and Aura Sphere. Bringing high-level Dark, Fairy, or Ice-type Pokémon helps survive its attacks while slowly chipping down its health.

Lowering Giratina's HP into the red zone and inflicting status conditions like Sleep or Paralysis greatly improves your catching odds. Ultra Balls and Dusk Balls work exceptionally well in the cave environment, though using a Master Ball remains an instant option if you prefer to skip the battle fatigue. Catching Giratina adds one of Sinnoh's most formidable Legendaries directly to your collection.

Obtaining the Griseous Orb for Origin Forme

After catching Giratina, dedicated players can unlock its floating Origin Forme by acquiring the Griseous Orb. To get this item, head to Ramanas Park and use a Distortion Slate to enter the Distortion Room. Defeating the level 100 shadow version of Giratina inside will award you the Griseous Orb as a reward.

Giving the Griseous Orb to your caught Giratina transforms it into its Origin Forme, boosting its offensive stats and altering its ability to Levitate. This extra battle challenge provides a rewarding end to Giratina's questline in Brilliant Diamond.
